Surrey Schools, Options, RCMP hosting consultation to prepare for upcoming community safety workshops
Surrey Schools, Options Community Services and the Surrey RCMP, with support from other community agencies, are seeking input from Newton families to help shape a series of workshops designed to support the community and create safe and caring spaces for youth.
The community consultation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Tamanawis Secondary (12600 66 Ave.) and will have district staff, Options counsellors, Surrey RCMP, and other community partners on hand. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend and ask questions and share ideas to help develop upcoming community workshops. These workshops will aim to support students and their families in accessing resources to support their safety and wellbeing and make the appropriate community connections.
“This is an opportunity for parents and the district to engage in a meaningful dialogue and determine how we can best support our students and families in the Newton community,” said Laurie Larsen, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education.
“Input from families and residents will guide the course for the workshops in the new year and inform us on how we can make sure our communities are safer for everyone.”
The consultation is free to attend and is structured as a drop-in – no pre-registration is required. The initial January session will be held on January 18, 2023. Further information on the subsequent workshops will be shared in the new year, along with registration details.
The initial sessions will be held at Tamanawis Secondary, with a goal of expanding these workshops to other schools and communities in the district.
