1. Description of District Level Delivery Model:

The International Education Advocate Teacher will have the skills and experience to work collaboratively and cooperatively with school-based International Student Advocates. The IE Advocate Teacher, in consultation with the Manager, Associate Manager and the Director of Instruction of International Education, will provide district leadership and will work with teachers, administrators and other District personnel to provide support for International learners through:

a. maintaining a current knowledge base of learning theory and research for International learners, Ministry policies and

b. working as a team member, focusing on the needs of International learners;

c. facilitating and providing district in-service and staff training development sessions that aid in and encourage success for
    International learners, for teachers, administrative officers and counsellors;

d. chairing and coordinating appropriate committee meetings on International topics and issues;

e. communicating with teachers, administrators, other district personnel, Ministry of Education officials, personnel from other
    districts, and others regarding District and Provincial programs and policies;

f. monitoring program delivery and emergent needs of International learners;

g. administering and coordinating appropriate educational assessments for elementary and secondary International students,
    interpreting results and providing relevant information to appropriate staff, students and parents/custodians;

h. administering and coordinating first language assessments when necessary – in conjunction with Multi-Cultural Workers;

i. reviewing, interpreting and credit granting based on external documentation – based on MOE policies and guidelines -  to
   assist schools with scheduling International students;

j. reviewing and approving of new International student applications;

k. delivering of workshops and seminars for International students and their parents/custodians; and,

l. in conjunction with teachers, ISAs and administration, assisting with intervention of International students of concerns
   involving academic and/or behavioural performance contracts.

2. Minimum Academic Qualifications/Experience

a) a Bachelor of Education Degree with training and/or related experience in the area of International Education;

b) a valid BC Teaching Certificate;

c) related experience and/or training in the area of international education

d) five years of school-based teaching which includes a minimum of two years classroom experience in a school/district with a
    significant population of International learners;

e) demonstrated experience in collaborative planning and facilitating of professional development activities; and,

f) a valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.

3. Preferred Qualifications/Experience

a) possession of, or working toward a Master of Education Degree or equivalent and appropriate course work in the area of
    International education;

b) elementary and secondary teaching experience and an interest or experience in the area of International education;

c) in-depth knowledge of programs and policies related to International education and the delivery of service; and,

d) experience as an International Student Advocate (ISA).

4. Reporting Structure

The personnel in this position are accountable in the execution of the assigned duties to the Manager responsible for International Education and/or a Director of Instruction.
