FMS
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are movement patterns that are the basis for Physical Literacy. They are foundational movements or precursors to the more specialized skills used to play sports or games. There are many different Fundamental movement skills. Our PHE curriculum gives 15 FMS in three different categories:
- Non-Locomotor - balancing, twisting, lifting, bending
- Locomotor - dodging, jumping, rolling, running, hopping, skipping
- Manipulative Skills - catching, striking, bouncing, kicking, throwing
Here is an 11 x 17 FMS poster that you can post on your classroom wall to help your students learn the different fundamental movement skills
