Policy 7505 - Secondary School Department Heads
Surrey School District No. 36 (Surrey) recognizes the value of department heads in the overall operation of secondary schools. Department heads are viewed as an integral part of the school’s instructional leadership team. Their role is vital in:

a) | Providing leadership in education instruction with the expectations set by the Ministry of Education, the policies of the school board and the school’s objectives. | b) | Coordinating the activities within the department to provide curriculum direction and an effective learning environment. | c) | Assisting the school’s administration, with the district staff, in matters affecting the curriculum, the evaluation of learning and the supervision of instruction. |

School district administration is charged with the responsibility of developing regulations relating to the responsibilities, duties, qualifications, appointment procedures and term of appointment of department heads; and, within budgetary provisions determined by the Surrey Board of Education in setting its annual budget, determining the number and type of department heads.
