Policy 5535 - Food Safety


1.

PHILOSOPHY

The Surrey Board of Education recognizes that food safety is an important component of maintaining a safe and healthy environment whenever food is offered as part of a school or district event:
1.1. 
The school district will strive to achieve and maintain superior standards of food safety and comply with all legislation and regulations for food safety.
1.2. 
School district staff with responsibility for the operation of a food service establishment must have successfully completed FoodSafe I certificate.
1.3. 
The school district encourages staff with managerial responsibility for a food service establishment, such as a teacher–chef, to obtain a FoodSafe II certificate.
1.4. 
The school district encourages those with occasional responsibility for food preparation and handling to obtain a Food Safe I certificate.

AUTHORITY

2.1. 
The board has assigned the responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of District Food Service Standards to the secretary–treasurer or designate.
