Surrey & White Rock summer of fun: Events and activities in your community
With the 2024-25 school year in the rearview mirror, students and families in Surrey and White Rock don’t have to look far to find free fun events and activities to stay busy during summer break.
With a teen tie dye day, an exhibit showcasing ocean health and aquatic life, summer reading clubs, and outdoor movie nights, there’s no shortage of things to do throughout the summer.
Museum of Surrey
Ocean Bound Exhibition (On until Sept. 7): Do you love aquatic life? Come down to the Museum of Surrey throughout the summer and learn about ocean health and aquatic life. There will be engaging games that will teach you how to protect our oceans. This hands-on exhibit brings the science of the ocean to life.
There are also several other free, ongoing exhibits to check out, including the Indigenous Hall, Heritage Campus, Photo Mural Project, and more!
July 26 – Raj the Raccoon’s 7th Birthday Party: The Museum of Surrey’s mascot, Raj is turning seven! You all are invited to Celebrate Raj’s big day. There will be birthday crafts, face painting, cupcakes, temporary tattoos, oversized games, a scavenger hunt, with prizes to win, and a cake!
Surrey Libraries
With branches across Surrey, there’s sure to be something for everyone at the various locations:
Youth Writing Contest Writers Group: For anyone that enjoys writing, whether that would be poems, stories, plays, or anything else, the youth writing contest would be the perfect summer activity for you! This activity is for teens aged 12-18, where they get a chance to enter a contest with several cash prizes and express their creativity in writing. All entries must be submitted by July 31st, 2025. Write on!
July 4, 25 and Aug. 22 – Outdoor movie nights: Movie night under the stars! Join Recreation Surrey, Community Arts and Surrey Libraries for three fun-filled family movie nights this summer at the Clayton Community Centre! Enjoy an evening of entertainment under the open sky, with exciting pre-show activities including live performances by NERO and Folk Star Arts Academy.
Arrive early to grab a good spot on the great lawn—don’t forget your blanket and lawn chairs!
July 9 – Teen Crafts – Tie Dye: Hip, cool clothes are in this summer and now you can make your very own! Grab your friends and head to the Cloverdale Library for a fun-filled tie-dye session where you can create matching summer styles together. The library will provide everything you need: white clothing, dye, and snacks. All you have to bring is your creativity!
July 13 and Aug. 13 – Poetry Workshop: Being creative this summer is in at the Newton Branch of Surrey Libraries. A perfect way to stay creative is by attending a poetry class. You can learn about poems, write them and share them with each other. Each month has a different focus. July will focus on limericks and rhyme, and August will focus on found poetry. Anyone can attend, whether you are a beginner or expert.
White Rock Library
Summer Reading Club (Ongoing): Reading is a great way to spend your summer! The reading program is perfect for children and teens looking for a long-lasting activity throughout the summer break. Register at the library, where you will receive a booklet to track your reading. At the end of the summer there’s a chance to win a grand prize. The more you read the better chance you have of winning!
July 4 – Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary: Do you love birds? Head over to the White Rock Library for a meet and greet with some avian friends! Part of celebrating the Summer Reading Club, the Fraser Valley Regional Library invites the Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary to come and teach you about their rescued birds’ stories, bird care and any other questions you may have.
Aug. 6 – Robin Layne: Journey into Rhythm: An event part of the summer reading club, celebrate with JUNO-nominated performing percussionist, Robin Layne, in a musical show! Kids get to make music on marimbas and percussion to create a fun high-energy show. The performance will take kids on a journey around the globe to learn music from Cuba, West Africa, Mexico, and Columbia.
