Gold-medal wins at BC Skills competition send Surrey students to nationals
Sullivan Heights Secondary student Isaac Carswell (above) won gold at the BC Skills competition in baking, while Reilly Ouwerling (below right) from Elgin Park Secondary took gold in car painting, earning both a trip to nationals in Halifax.
Four Surrey students will compete in the Skills Canada National Competition in Halifax in late May, after taking first place at provincials.
Dozens of Surrey students were among 600 youth from across the province who took their talent to the BC Skills competition in Abbotsford in mid-April, competing in an array of skilled trade and technology fields, including everything from animation to welding.
Gold medal winners from Surrey Schools were:
- Junniel Abeto & Vince Pascual (Fraser Heights Secondary) â- 2D animation
- Isaac Carswell (Sullivan Heights Secondary) â- baking
- Reilly Ouwerling (Elgin Park Secondary) â- car painting
The first-place winners now have the opportunity to be part of Team B.C., representing the province at the national skills competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia May 28-29.
