Schools closed Monday for national day of mourning to mark Queen’s funeral

In recognition of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the B.C. government has announced it will join the federal government and other provinces in observing the national day of mourning to mark Queen’s funeral.

As a result, all 130 of the district’s elementary schools, secondary schools, learning centres and all district facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 19 for the national holiday.

The day will be observed by provincial public-sector employees, including teachers, principals and all district staff.

Our schools will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

All community rentals (except child care) scheduled at Surrey Schools for Monday have been cancelled due to the national day of mourning. Renters will be provided with a credit or refund. Licensed child care services may still be in operation in some cases. Contact your specific provider for more information.

For more information, please see the provincial statement that was issued by the Premier. This provincial statement is also available in Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
