More than 120 district employees are celebrating 25 years of service with Surrey Schools this year!

Every year, the Surrey Board of Education hosts the Long Service Awards to honour employees who have achieved 25 years with the district. This year, we have 129 employees who have reached the quarter-century mark.

“Twenty-five years is an important milestone and deserves to be celebrated,” said Laurie Larsen, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education. “Each of you should have enormous pride in what you do to support children and student learning. And it is your work that makes our district what it is today.”

This year marked the long-awaited return to an in-person awards ceremony, hosted Tuesday night at the Resource Education Centre. The ceremony featured a territorial welcome by Katzie Chief Grace George and a welcoming song by Coast Salish drummers, and included messages from Superintendent Mark Pearmain, Surrey Teachers’ Association (STA) president Jatinder Bir, Surrey Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (SPVPA) president Claudine Davies, CUPE 728 president Tammy Murphy and Student Advisory Council member Sukhman Kambo.

The event also featured music by the Semiahmoo Secondary Jazz Band and several songs by the Simon Cunningham Elementary Choir.

As a gift in recognition of their time with the district, employees received a gift card for a local restaurant.

We encourage schools and departments to congratulate staff members by way of staff meetings, morning announcements, school newsletters and school website posts.

Congratulations to all of our Long Service Award recipients, and thank you for your many years of service in the district!
