Academics & Trades: Post-Secondary in High School
The Surrey School District has partnered with local post-secondary institutions and licensed training facilities to bring senior students a variety of academic and trade opportunities.
District Partnership Programs
Students registered in District Partnership Programs attend trade school in second semester, earning training credit and high school credit at the same time. Tuition is paid by the School District.
District Partnership Programs offer coursework and on-the-job training to start students on their path to a Red Seal. Many students also come out with future employment offers or apprenticeships to continue in their industry of choice.
The District Partnership Programs currently offered are:
- Automotive Service Technician
- Baking and Pastry Arts
- CADD/Drafting
- Carpentry
- Collision and Refinishing Common Core
- Construction Craft Worker (CCW)
- Culinary Arts
- Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Electrical
- Explorations in Aviation Careers
- Hairstylist
- Heavy Mechanical Trades
- Horticulture
- Metal Fabrication
- Millwright
- Nursing Prep
- Painter
- Piping
- Welding
Interested grade 11s must apply in February to enter the program in their grade 12 year. Grade 10s are also permitted to apply, although priority is given to grade 11s. Applications are available through the Career Centre and may include a questionnaire and forms, an interview, and math assessment.

Academic Dual Credit
Students registered in Academic Dual Credit courses attend QE in the day, full-time, and take post-secondary classes at night. Tuition is paid by the School District.
Academic Dual Credit courses allow students to earn post-secondary credits and experience a university-level class.
The Academic Dual Credit courses currently offered are:
- Community and Public Safety
- Graphic Design Course
- Introduction to Health Science
- Introduction to Legal Office Procedures
- Introduction to Practice for Child and Youth Care Counsellors
Additional classes are offered twice per year through KPU’s High School on Campus program.
Interested grade 11s must apply in February to enter the program in their grade 12 year (except for HSOC, whose applications occur in April for the fall semester and October for the spring semester). Applications are available through the Career Centre.
