Technology and trades students from across the district have 36 new medals around their necks, following last week’s Skills Canada Lower Fraser Valley Regional Competition.

The annual competition provides an opportunity for students to showcase their skills in a variety of trades and technology-related fields, including welding, culinary arts, animation, automotive and carpentry. This year, 98 of our secondary students and 58 elementary students competed across 14 contests.

“Skills Canada’s mandate is to promote youth in trades through friendly competition,” said Fraser Heights Secondary teacher Martin Lim. “These contests are more for fun and to showcase their skills in trades, all in a friendly manner, and it’s great that the district supports it.”

Surrey students took home 12 gold medals, 11 silver and 10 bronze. Fraser Heights Secondary was the big winner, taking home an outstanding 15 medals: six gold, five silver and four bronze.
