Take Our Kids To Work Day - Grade 9
Attention Parents and Guardians of Grade 9 Students,
Our Grade 9 students are set to once again participate in the annual national event - Take Our Kids To Work Day (TOKTWD) on Wednesday November 5th. In order to facilitate this event, I will be connecting with Grade 9 students in Block B on Monday October 20th and Tuesday October 21st to share more information about this valuable experience and to distribute permission forms.
The goal of TOKTWD is to have all students at Salish participate and in order for that to occur we require parent or guardian permission, as well as your support in finding a workplace that can accommodate their grade 9 student on November 5th. Even if you are unable to bring your child to work, we hope that you can help your child to find another family member, friend or neighbour who is able to host students at their work.
If a student is unable to receive permission or chooses not to participate in the event they will be required to be in class on November 5th and will be provided alternative assignments that will build connections to the Careers 9 curriculum. I can assure you students will find the experience in the work world more enjoyable and far more meaningful if they experience the day in person.
The objective of the event is to provide an experience that will give student several opportunities:
- to observe the workplace by job shadowing an adult;
- to gain respect for the contributions people make to the workplace;
- to strengthen the bonds among parents, students and the community;
- to discover, in a practical way, the links between education and their own futures.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am available by email (clift_t@surreyschools.ca) or by phone through the school's main line (604.235.9836).
Your support is appreciated.
