Volunteer Process (New for 2025-2026 School Year)
Volunteers play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant school community. We sincerely appreciate your understanding of our volunteer application process, dedication to student safety, and the generous donation of your time. Your efforts provide students with invaluable opportunities that may not otherwise be available to them.
Criminal Record Checks (CRCs)
Under the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP), School Boards are mandated to ensure that all school volunteers with the potential for unsupervised access to minors complete a criminal record check. The School District appreciates your understanding that requesting this check is both a legal requirement and part of our commitment to student safety.
Recognizing that there may be sensitivities around providing such information, the School District assures confidentiality. Please note: The CRCs received by the district only indicate “cleared” or “not cleared”—they do not include details of any infractions.
Driver Volunteer Process
In addition to Criminal Record Checks (CRCs), all volunteers who transport students as part of their volunteer activities are required to provide a driver’s abstract and complete a Volunteer Driver Application form, in accordance with Surrey Schools Procedure 10313.1 – Volunteer Drivers.
The Ministry of Education has introduced a new policy that is now in effect in all schools across B.C. As part of this policy, parent volunteer drivers are required to provide both a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and an ICBC Driver’s Abstract before they can transport students on school field trips or events.
This policy has been implemented to ensure the highest level of safety for students. By completing both checks, schools can confirm that volunteer drivers have safe driving records and that they meet the necessary standards to supervise and transport children.
What is required to hand into the office for parent volunteers:
- Driver’s Abstract: You will need to provide a driver’s abstract, available through ICBC.
- Vehicle Insurance Documents (Office staff needs to view only)
- Drivers License (Office staff needs to view only)
- Completed Driver Application Form
Helpful resources for parents (please see attachments):
- A Volunteer Drivers Information Guide with step-by-step instructions.
- QR Code to Request a Criminal Record Check
- Driver Application Form (Fillable)
We truly value and appreciate our parent volunteers. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through these changes together, keeping student safety at the heart of everything we do.
