For the second-straight year, the Fleetwood Park Dragons came out swinging as Axe Division champions in the Surrey Fire Fighters Association Goodwill Classic, while North Surrey Secondary climbed to the top of the Ladder Division.

The 21st-annual senior girls basketball tournament held the finals for both divisions on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.

The Dragons narrowly defended their title against the Holy Cross Crusaders in an overtime nailbiter, eking out the win 44-42. It was a hard-fought victory following up on last year’s dominant finals performance, beating Semiahmoo Secondary 68-45.

Meanwhile, North Surrey edged out Tamanawis Secondary after fending off the 2022 Ladder champs, Johnston Heights Secondary, in the semifinals of the 15-team division.

This year’s Goodwill Classic marks a return to January tournaments, as last year’s was postponed to March 2022 and the 2021 edition was cancelled entirely, both due to the pandemic.

Congratulations to all of our teams in the Surrey Fire Fighters Association Goodwill Classic!
