Principal's Message November 6th

Thursday November 6, 2025

Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

It is already November, Autumn has arrived, and school-life is busy with learning, celebration and new challenges.  Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary continues to provide our community of learners with amazing opportunities for growth and development.  Our school is such a dynamic and rewarding place.  We are all very fortunate.  I hope all Panthers have had an excellent week! 😊

We concluded last week with some Halloween costume fun.   Great school spirit!

This week our students returned to some important special events and learning.  Wednesday was our annual “Take Our Kids to Work Day” for our grade 9 students.  Most of our grade 9’s spent the day shadowing a family member of friend at their workplace.  It was a very valuable introduction to the world of work.  Great thanks to our Career Education Dept. for your leadership

On Nov. 5, 2025, a group of 44 English 10 and 12 students visited the UBC Museum of Anthropology. They saw totems and masks and canoes and ceremonial head dresses from many First Peoples nations as well as exhibits and artifacts from Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. They then had lunch at the Student Union Building and saw campus life firsthand.1762535403921.f272a9195765.jpeg

On Thursday, our Counselling Dept hosted our annual Post-Secondary Day.  We invited many Post-Secondary Institutes to the school to provide orientation information to our senior students.  They provide both one-on-one meetings and general presentations to our students.   This was an excellent opportunity for our graduating students to begin thinking about their future plans and educational and career aspirations.  Thank you to our Counselling team for all your hard work in putting the day together.

Our Remembrance Day committee has been working very hard to organize this year’s Remembrance Day Assemblies.  On Friday, we will hold 3 assemblies for our students, staff and invited guests.  I know the assemblies will provide very solemn and powerful messages of respect, remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations and current members of our Armed Forces.  Each year, I am always so impressed with the citizenship of our LTSS community and the importance of our Remembrance Day assemblies.  Thank you so much to the many staff and students involved for making our school assemblies possible.

All Panthers are reminded that Monday, November 10th is a District wide Professional Development Day.  Classes will not be in session.  Tuesday, November 11th is the statutory Remembrance Day holiday.

Have an excellent Friday and a safe Remembrance Day long weekend.  We will see all students back at school on Wednesday morning.

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
