Principal's Message November 24-28th
Good morning Panthers!
I hope everyone is doing well and deeply engaged in learning, friendship and new challenges. It is the end of November, much is on the go, and many seasonal traditions are just around the corner. It is an exciting time to be a member of the Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary community. I wish all students and staff much success as you make your way through the next few weeks. It is a special time of the year.

Last Sunday our Varsity Football team had a very successful game at BC Place Stadium playing against Vancouver College Fighting Irish in the Provincial Semi-Final playoffs. Our Panthers emerged victorious and will now be playing in the Finals against Mouat Secondary on Sunday evening at BC Place for the championship. Congratulations Panthers! We are very excited to be returning to the Provincial Final game again this year and wish all players and coaches the very best. We will be there to cheer on our team!
On Monday we had the chance to bring our staff together to review current initiatives, future systems and some recent learning around Compassionate Systems training. I would like to thank student leaders Kiefer, Ava and Harneet for your presentation. It is so important to provide our staff opportunities to directly hear from our students about matters of importance within our school. Student leadership is a critical component of the LTSS community.
This week I had the chance to drop by Mr. Kumar’s room at lunchtime to visit our LTSS Chess Club. The club continues to grow and we are delighted to be able to provide this space and activity for our students!

On Tuesday, Ms. Watt’s Woodwork class had the opportunity to visit the Cloverdale KPU campus for a very informative fieldtrip. Our students learned about the many Trades Programs that are offered at KPU, and the highly rewarding career opportunities that are available for them. Thank you to our Career Ed Dept staff and Ms. Watt for organizing this visit.
Speaking of career opportunities, on Wednesday evening our Career Education Department hosted their annual Parent Information evening. Parents were provided with much valuable information about the numerous Trades educational programs within the school and district. Our students are so fortunate to have access to these educational opportunities through the Surrey School District… and to have the Cloverdale KPU campus right around the corner. Students are encouraged to drop by our Career Centre to learn more!
This evening, we will be meeting with our Parent Advisory Council. All parents/guardians are invited to join us on Zoom at 6pm. This month our PAC will be finalizing this year’s budget for support of our school’s extracurricular programs. We are so thankful for their support and recognize the positive influence that our PAC has across our community. On behalf of our students, thank you for enriching our Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary extracurricular opportunities!

Our Athletics Department is in action at this time of year. This week our Senior Girls Volleyball team is also competing for the Provincial championship! The team left for Kelowna on Wednesday morning and will be representing Lord Tweedsmuir on the Provincial stage this weekend! Congratulations to the team for your amazing season and playoff run. We will be watching your progress over the next few days! Way to go Panthers!
I would also like to wish our Basketball teams the very best. Their season started this week with Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary hosting our first tournament of the year. Our team did very well with their season opener going into overtime with the 4th ranked team in the province. Way to go team and good luck this season!

Our Lord Tweedsmuir Teaching Kitchen has a very long history of excellence in culinary arts and providing a lunch program for our students. This is such a valuable service to our school community. Great thanks to our Chef, Culinary Assistant, clerical team and our Culinary Arts students for all of your work and dedication in making this possible. Again, our Panthers are very fortunate.
We are very proud of our Panthers in both curricular and extra-curricular learning. Their LTSS success stories happen every day. Congratulations to all students and staff for continuing to represent our school with outstanding accomplishment and effort.
Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your weekend. See you on Monday.

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
