Principal's Message June 1st-5th
Hello Panthers!
Welcome to June and our final month of the 25/26 school year! The next few weeks will be an exceptionally important and busy time for our Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary community. School life will be full of final learning opportunities, final assessments, year-end demonstrations of excellence in learning, and many year-end traditions. It will be a time of community and celebration. Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary has so much to be thankful for, and we are very proud of our accomplishments. We will continue to be focussed on learning until the final bell on the final day of the school year, and we will continue to celebrate our time together as a learning community.

Over the past weeks, students in Mr. Wasmuth’s Electronics class have been very busy building robots. Recently, the students competed against each other in a Robot Hockey Game. A great time was had by all… and the learning has been very powerful!

We also had the opportunity to meet with our District Automotive Technician Program students for their year-end Celebration. It has been another year of very valuable learning and Career development for our very fortunate students. Great thanks to our Automotive teacher Mr. Roscoe for your mentorship.

Our Senior Girls Soccer Team has returned from Kelowna after competing in the Provincial Championships and placing 16th in the province. The team has had an amazing season and represented us with pride and commitment. Congratulations to Coach Ms. Nunn and all players for all you have accomplished. Way to go Panthers!

Our Senior Boys Rugby team has also returned from the Provincial Championships. They placed first in the Challenger Division, and are the 9th best team in BC’s Senior Boys Rugby! Congratulations to Mr. van Halst and all coaches and players on our team!
Our Senior Girls Rugby team also competed in the Provincial Championships! The team enjoyed an incredible season of success and spirit. We are so proud of our LTSS Panthers for representing us with excellence and passion finishing 10th in the province. Way to go team!!

I also had the chance to drop by and check out the work and creativity of Mr. Kavanaugh’s Engineering class. Students created a Mini Golf course! Each hole provided a unique and interesting challenge. Great fun! Well done Panthers!

This week, I was able to observe a new activity at the school with our Business Leaders Club’s Case Study Challenge. Our future business leaders were given a realistic business scenario to solve and then present their business plan to our guest judges. Great thanks to our LTSS Alumni association members for spending the afternoon with us and judging the case studies. I was very impressed with the poise, confidence and presentation skills of our students. Also, great thanks to Ms. Cheema and our Business Leaders Club for all of your hard work and energy in putting this fun and interesting challenge together!

Welcome home and congratulations to our LTSS Music Department’s Band students. Our Senior Concert band recently participated in a National Music Festival in Toronto. The students performance was outstanding with rave reviews from the adjudicator. Way to go Panthers!

On Tuesday evening, we hosted our annual Athletics Awards Ceremony. Several hundred student-athletes and family members joined us to recognize and celebrate an amazing year of Athletics at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. I was again reminded of the importance of Athletics in the lives of our students and staff, and the incredible life-long values and skills that involvement in sport develops. I would like to thank all of our amazing coaches, managers, volunteers and student leaders who work behind the scenes to make our Athletics program possible. Congratulations to all of our students who participated in our Athletics program this year. Lastly, special thanks to our Athletic Directors Mr. Gemmell and Mr. Rai for all of your hard work and leadership in building this amazing program. Our students are very fortunate!

Today, our Humanities 8 students have been participating in our annual Humanities Cup. Students spent their class in friendly and fun competition participating in skill testing games. A great time was had by all. Thank you to Ms. Smith for organizing the day and to all of our Humanities 8 teachers for your amazing work.
This evening, I will be attending our Panther Players Drama – “Almost Maine”. I’m really looking forward to the show. It is a romantic comedy… and our students have worked so hard to bring this play to life. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and to Ms. Hockey for your leadership and guidance. Our LTSS students have so many incredible opportunities to learn, grow and shine. The Performing Arts are so important and play a central role within our community. Our Drama students are very talented!
Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend. See you on Monday.

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Note: For the safety and privacy of our students, please avoid using the Elements Casino entrance as a designated drop-off/pick-up location.
Students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
