Principal's Message October 30th

This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir

Thursday October 30, 2025

Good morning Panthers!

Happy Halloween Spirit week Panthers!  I hope your week has been enjoyable with lots of school spirit, friendship and fun.  The end of October in schools is always a very meaningful time of learning and school-life as we are deeply engaged in the systems and routines of the first semester.  Our time together moves quickly, as we note the shorter days, chill in the air and the changing colours of the leaves. All Panthers are highly encouraged to work hard, appreciate all you have as a member of the Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary community, and demonstrate your talents, skills and school pride every day.

Monday was “Drop Everything and Read Day”!  Thanks to all students and staff who participated in the event.  Our school library is a wonderful resource for all our students.  All Panthers are highly encouraged to drop by and utilize this welcoming space.  Our LTSS library has so much to offer our students.  We are very fortunate.

It is Halloween Spirit Week at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.  Our Student Council has been very busy coordinating special, fun activities to celebrate our school spirit.  Each day this week has been a different theme with Friday being our Costume Parade and pumpkin carving contest.  Students are reminded to please review the Surrey District’s message “Celebrate Halloween Safely and Respectfully”. We look forward to a fun day of costumes and school spirit!1761845798439.5786a9195322.png

This week, our Panther Players Theatre Company have also been celebrating Halloween with their Haunted House.  Costumes, sets, spooky characters and lots of fun.   Congratulations to Ms. Hockey and our Drama students for all your creativity and work.

Next week there will be a couple of very important special learning opportunities for our students.  Wednesday is Grade 9 “Take Our Kids To Work Day”.  We are encouraging all grade 9 students to job shadow a family/friend for the day and experience the world of work.  Note:  The City of Surrey is also hosting some very interesting work-related placements for the day.  Thank you to our Career Education Department for coordinating the day.

On Thursday afternoon, we are hosting our Post-Secondary Day.  There will be many Post-Secondary colleges/universities at LTSS to provide orientation presentations for students.  All Grade 12 students are highly encouraged to take advantage of this important opportunity.   Great thanks to our Counselling team for hosting this event.

Our Intramural lunchtime program continues to be a fun way for students to spend their lunchbreak.  Basketball is on the menu!  Drop by and join in on the fun.

It has been a very big week for Lord Tweedsmuir’s swim team.  We had over 40 athletes competing, with approximately a dozen students advancing to the Provincial finals. Congratulations to all LTSS swimmers!1761845798507.7ab913195321.png

This week our Urban Studies students had the chance to visit Granville Island for a fun and informative Field Trip.  Our students were excellent ambassadors for the school and had a wonderful day of exploration.  Great thanks to Mr. Solari and Mr. Donaldson for making the day possible.

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
