Happy Diwali Panthers!  I hope you have had an excellent week of interesting learning, celebration, friendship and fun. 😊

Our time at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is always such a special and valuable opportunity for growth and community-building.  Thank you to all staff, students and parents for all you contribute to our school.  We are very fortunate!

I would like to again thank all participating teachers and parents and students who attended last week’s Parent-Teacher Interviews.   The evening was a great success with many Panthers and family participating in these valuable conversations.   Thank you to our Leadership students for all your help in hosting this event.  Great work!

Students, parents/guardians are reminded that the District recently communicated our updated District policy regarding e-scooters and e-bikes.

The district has worked closely with the City of Surrey to align our e-scooter guidance to their rules, which are available on the City’s website. Since e-scooters are not permitted on public property, sidewalks, or roads in Surrey and White Rock,

Surrey Schools will not permit the use or storage of e-scooters on Surrey Schools property.

Also, please note e-bikes must follow provincial and city legislation and bylaws including the age requirements.  E-bikes may not be stored inside schools or charged on Surrey Schools property because improper charging or storage can significantly increase the risk of fire or explosion. If they are brought onto school property, they must be locked up outside.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

On Monday, we celebrated Diwali at the school.  It was a very special day of celebrating light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.  Great thanks to our South Asian Students and Allies Club for all of your work in decorating the school and hosting our celebration.  Also, special thanks to our Bhangra Club for your performance.  It was wonderful to see all of the traditional clothing and smiles and laughter throughout the day.

On Tuesday, we were blessed with spectacular weather.   It was a perfect afternoon for football.   Our Grade 8 team played against Heritage Woods Secondary.  Our Panthers were looking very strong and are enjoying their season.  Way to go Panthers!

Also on Tuesday, our Staff Committee met to discuss a variety of systems and structures across our school community.  I appreciate the very considered and professional feedback of our discussion.  Thank you to all members of this year’s Staff Committee for your leadership and support.

On Wednesday, we managed to hold our scheduled Fire Drill just before the rains arrived.  With each drill, our building clears a little faster, and our attendance procedure becomes a little more efficient.  Thank you to all staff and students for your good work and attention to detail.

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
