Principal's Message October 28-November 1
Thursday October 31st, 2024
Good morning LTSS!
Happy Diwali, Happy Hindu Heritage month and Happy Halloween! 😊 We are celebrating our diversity at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary this week. Throughout the week our students have been in the Spirit with PJ Day, Plaid Day, Fall Colours Day and Costume Day. In addition, on Friday, we will be celebrating Diwali with music, food, mehndi, trivia and rangoli! Equity, diversity and inclusion are so important for our school community. Great thanks to all Panthers for your leadership and support in welcoming and celebrating all members of Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.
Last week our students in Ms. Perez-Dingler’s class had the chance to visit UBC and the newly renovated Museum of Anthropology. They spent an incredible day learning about Indigenous Art and Culture. This will be a highlight of their year at LTSS.
Last Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of attending our Fall Music Concert. We had the chance to recognize and celebrate the musical excellence and talent of our students. The Concert was a great success and provided a wonderful evening of music. Congratulations Panthers!
This week, our Panther Players have been hosting their Haunted Theatre show. Congratulations to Ms. Jones and all of our Drama students for hosting the event and adding to our school spirit.
On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to attend the Metro Principal’s forum with principals from across the region. We participated in discussions focussed on student agency and voice, digital literacy and mental well-being, and creative timetabling. I am always grateful to be able to learn from colleagues and hear how other schools and districts are facing similar challenges. Professional collaboration and conversation are so important.
On Wednesday, our Art Department hosted the LTSS pumpkin carving contest. We had many very creative entries. The students enjoyed the chance to work together, have some fun and show us their talent. Way to go Panthers!
Thursday is Halloween and our school’s Costume Parade at lunchtime. It is always fun to see the various costumes and celebrate our school spirit with staff and students. Thank you to our Student Council for hosting us, and thanks to all students and staff who arrived in costume!
On Friday we will celebrate Diwali at lunchtime in the cafeteria. Again, we will come together in spirit and pride and friendship. Special thanks to our South Asian Student and Allies Club for hosting the celebration! It was wonderful to see the many smiles of our Panthers.
Students in our BASES program and Home Economics Department are enjoying the season and decorating our school! 😊. Thank you for the beautiful Fall and Halloween displays.
Students and parents and staff are reminded that we are looking forward to a variety of special events next week with Grad photos, Literacy 12 Provincial Assessments, Post-Secondary Day, Take our Kids to Work Day, Remembrance Day Assemblies and a Non-Instructional Day. As always, our school is a dynamic and interesting place to work and learn!
Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your weekend. See you on Monday!

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office. Students must park in their designated stall.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
