Welcome to Sunnyside Elementary School’s cozy Library Learning Commons.   This is where we encourage a love for literacy and learning! At Sunnyside, we have two Teacher-Librarians…Ms. Sodhi and Mr. Pang.  Teacher-Librarians are teachers…in addition to being classroom teachers, they have taken extra courses or have had experience with “library related work” and can provide assistance with resources and lessons that connect with the BC Curriculum.

To access our school library catalogue, please visit the following link and click the blue "catalog" tab at the top. From there, click "Destiny Discover" on the left-hand side:

Log In - Anyone can view the catalogue, however, to put books on hold or check out e-books, students must log in with their surreyschools.ca username and password. *Hint-if the username doesn't work, try it without the @surreyschools.ca suffix!

At times, you may need some resources to help your child’s learning.  The Surrey School District has subscribed to some great on-line resources that you and your child can access.  Click on the following link…

Lost, Missing, or Damaged Books

We understand that sometimes accidents happen and/or books go missing. Sometimes they even get returned by mistake to the Public Library! If this happens, please reach out and let us know, as we always appreciate the heads up. If a book is missing, please keep looking for it. They usually turn up, eventually! If a book is damaged, please don't try fixing it yourself. Just let us know- we are pretty good at book repairs and are always up for a challenge. If a book is truly lost or damaged beyond repair, we may have to issue a fine which can be paid via School Cash Online. However, before that happens, please contact us. We are open to discussing other replacement options. Thank you! :)

Book Choice

Libraries are for everyone!! Our library serves ALL our students.

A school library provides a wide variety of quality resources and materials, both in print and online, to serve and reflect our diverse student population. It is important that School Libraries provide equitable access of these resources to all students.

That being said, not every book is right for every student, at every age. Parents/guardians can play an active role and be a part of their child's reading experience and help determine what is and isn't appropriate for them. Please ask your child what they are reading and discuss what they are learning.

A good place to check book reviews is Goodreads, Amazon, Kirkus or Common Sense Media. Of course you can also ask your friendly Teacher-Librarians!

Ms.Sodhi is our full-time Teacher-Librarian, and Mr. Pang works on Wednesday’s and Friday’s. If you have any questions, you may contact either of them via email or feel free to stop by the library with your child after school to say hello. :)
