Playground Buddies making a difference at Lunch

Since our Playground Buddy program has rolled out here at Woodland Park, we have seen a positive change in student behaviour outside at Lunch. Student leaders in Grades 5-7 underwent 4 weeks of training organized by Micaela Rabie, a Douglas College EA practicum student. During that training, our leaders developed a collection of strategies to proactively influence the outside play areas at Woodland Park, like deciding what to play, choosing a good location to play, deciding whose turn it is, and alternative activity ideas.

These students were also equipped with strategies to identify students in need, regulate strong emotions, problem-solve peer conflicts, and the knowledge when to seek further assistance from a Supervisory Aide or the Office.

Equipped with their safety vests and informative lanyards, our Playground Buddies continue to make a positive impression on our learning community.
