Surrey Schools: Leadership in Learning

Goals:

• Improve students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes related to computer technology
• Improve students’ ability to express themselves through speech
• Improve students’ ability to express themselves effectively through writing

Accomplishments and Initiatives:

• Developed and implemented class and school-wide public speaking opportunities
• Implemented writing assessment instrument based on “First Steps” program
• Implemented a student leadership program
• Increased student use of the Internet
• Began work on implementing annual benchmarking of all students in reading, numeracy, writing and social responsibility using school-generated instruments
