Principal's Message June 2-6th

This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir

Thursday, June 5th, 2025

Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary and welcome to June and the final month of the 24/25 school year.  It is such an important and busy time for all LTSS students and staff.   We are deeply engaged in learning and completing course curriculum, celebrating success across our school community and planning for next year.  The final two weeks of regularly scheduled classes and the many extracurricular events will highlight all that we have learned and accomplished.  Keep up the great work Panthers!

On Friday evening, we held our Graduation celebration for the class of 2025.  Students and parents arrived at our Red Carpet Mix and Mingle for photos and congratulations.  From there, students were loaded into coach busses and transported to the Aria Banquet Hall for our Graduation Dinner-Dance.  After Dinner-Dance students then attended the Dry Grad celebration at the City Central Fun Zone.  Students were then transported back to the school at the end of a long and exciting evening of friendship and with memories of a lifetime! 😊.

The evening was a great success.  Special thanks to our graduating class for being such excellent ambassadors of our school.  We received several compliments from the staff of the Aria on the behavior and positivity of our students.  Also, special thanks to our many staff who helped supervise the Dinner-Dance.  Also, special thanks to our many parent volunteers who organized and supervised the Dry Grad.  Again, our students were so fortunate to be provided these wonderful events to celebrate their graduation from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.  Way to go Panthers!

This week is Pride Week at LTSS.  It is also Pride Month.  Our GSA committee has been busy organizing events throughout the week to recognize and support our 2SLGBTQIA+ community.  Great thanks to all of our students and staff for your hard work, support and allyship in promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.

“June is Pride Month and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and support our 2SLGBTQ+ community! It commemorates the Stonewall Riots that occurred in June 1969. Through its birth, Pride is a form of protest rooted in the fight for 2SLGBTQ+ rights. This call for a world without discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity is the reason we continue to celebrate Pride today! “

Great thanks to our GSA Club and all allies for your support, leadership and citizenship as we celebrate Pride and inclusion and diversity across our school!

“Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, embrace inclusion and honour the incredible ways 2SLGBTQIA+ friends, students, neighbours, colleagues and family members help make B.C. a wonderful place to call home.”  Education Minister’s, parliamentary secretary’s, K-12 education partners’ statement on Pride 2025

This week our students are completing their Core Competency reflections as part of their graduation requirement.  Thank you to all staff for your support in ensuring that this has been completed.  I would also like to recognize our students’ growth in Communication, Thinking and Personal and Social Responsibility over the year.  Well done Panthers.

On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to thank our Math Homework Club student tutors.  This is another excellent opportunity for our students to demonstrate their leadership skills and add to our community.  We appreciate all you have contributed to our Math Department and students’ learning!

On Tuesday evening, we held our annual Athletics Banquet.  It was a great night of recognition, celebration of excellence and school spirit.   Great thanks to all our coaches and managers and volunteers who make LTSS Athletics so strong.   Congratulations to all our student athletes on all you have accomplished this year.  The lessons you have learned on the field and in your sport will be carried with you throughout your lives.  It was wonderful to see so many athletes and their parents in attendance at the banquet.

We also celebrated the graduation of our Indigenous students on Tuesday evening with the District’s annual Indigenous Honouring Ceremony.  Many Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary grade 12 students participated in the ceremony and we were honoured to be there to share this occasion with them.  Congratulations Panthers!

Today our Black Student Association is hosting African Heritage Day at the school with an information scavenger hunt for our students.  It will be a fun and informative lunch time!

This afternoon, at the end of the day,  a new tradition returns with our Tweedy Carnival.   The event, hosted by our Student Council, is a fun way for our students to socialize and celebrate the school year.   Students are encouraged to join us in the cafeteria after classes today to play some carnival games and enjoy some treats! 😊

Tomorrow will also bring back another fun tradition with our Grade 8 Humanities Cup.  Students in our Humanities classes, supported by our Leadership students, will enjoy a morning of friendly competition and games on our field.  The weather looks like it will cooperate for a morning of friendship and skill testing games and events.  Thank you to our senior Leadership students for all your work in hosting the morning!

It has been a busy week!  We’ll see you back at school on Monday. 😊

Ken

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.  Students must park in their designated stall.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
