Principal's Message May 19-23rd
This Week at Lord Tweedsmuir
Thursday, May 22nd 2025
Good morning Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary,
Happy Thursday morning Panthers! Our school year is moving fast and June is just around the corner. Students and staff at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary are deeply engaged in learning and our school community continues to be a big, busy, dynamic, interesting and very special place to work and learn! I hope everyone has had an excellent week.
Last Friday, our PHE students enjoyed “Fun Friday”!
We returned to school on Tuesday morning after the Victoria Day and Cloverdale Rodeo long weekend. This is always an exciting and important time of year for our community. It was fun to see the students and staff in Western wear on Friday. Great school spirit!
On Tuesday, our Staff Committee met to discuss next year’s Extended Day Bell Schedule and a variety of school-wide issues as we continue our planning for next year. These are important conversations and I greatly appreciate the feedback and perspective provided by participating staff members. I am constantly reminded that we work within a very dynamic and complex system and our school thrives when we work together in community. Great thanks to all staff members for your commitment and leadership in support of our Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary school culture.
On Wednesday, nurses from Fraser Health returned to our school to complete the Immunization program for students that missed the first session. Again, another very important system that requires cooperation across our school in order to occur. Thanks everyone.
Today, our Grade 12 graduating students attended our annual ICBC Safety presentation. Our guest speaker, a member of the Cloverdale community, provided a very powerful and moving account of personal tragedy related to drinking and driving and the importance of careful and responsible decision-making during the Graduation season. Thank you to Markita Kaulius for sharing your story with our students. This was such an important message for our graduates.
Tomorrow morning, we will be hosting our third and final Grade 7 tour. Again, our Leadership students will be working with the Grade 7’s with school tours, orientation and fun activities. I have been very impressed with the leadership skills of our senior students and the service they have provided our school and our future students. Our Leadership students are wonderful role models and are very proud of their school. They have demonstrated the caring, welcoming and inclusive community values that we work very hard to reinforce across our school.
We are looking forward to our District Automotive Service Technician Program’s year-end luncheon and Awards presentations on Friday afternoon. Our school is very fortunate to be able to offer this amazing learning opportunity to students from across the school district. Students learn life-long employability skills and benefit so much from this co-op experience.
On Friday evening, we are hosting the Closing Night performance of our Panther Players’ Drama production: “The Play That Went Wrong”. It promises to be a fun and entertaining evening of comedy! Get your tickets while you can and join us for the final show! 😊
This week, our Marketing 9 students completed an exciting and engaging project where they had the opportunity to step into the roles of both entrepreneurs and investors. Each student developed a unique business idea and presented their pitch to a panel of "investors"—their fellow classmates. This format allowed every student to experience both sides of the business world: presenting as a startup founder and evaluating as an investor.
The level of enthusiasm and creativity was truly impressive. Some students embraced their roles so convincingly that it felt like watching an episode of Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den. The questions posed during the pitches were thoughtful, challenging, and demonstrated a deep understanding of business concepts. Way to go Panthers!
We have another very busy week ahead with a Professional Development Day on Monday focussed on Artificial Intelligence and its influence on the educational system. On Friday evening, we are hosting the Graduation Dinner-Dance and Dry Grad. It promises to be a wonderful evening of celebration for our senior students. We look forward to sharing this special time with our graduating class.
Have an excellent Friday and a happy weekend. We’ll see you back at school on Tuesday morning. 😊

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office. Students must park in their designated stall.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
