Principal's Message November 11-15th

Good morning to all Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary Panthers.

I hope you are well, experiencing new challenges, new learning and new successes!  I am constantly reminded of the wide variety of powerful learning that is happening everyday within and outside our classrooms at LTSS.  It is a privilege for each of us to belong to this very special, big, busy, thriving and complex community of learners.  Everyday our students and staff demonstrate their commitment to learning, our school community and their Panther pride.  As we return from the long weekend and enter into this very important 6 weeks of classes before Winter Break, it is essential that excellence in all forms of learning, caring and inclusion continue to be our focus.  I encourage all students to keep working hard, stay focussed on your success and enjoy the many celebrations that will be occurring over the weeks ahead.  Way to go Panthers!! 😊

I had the chance to cheer on our Varsity Football team on Friday afternoon.  Congratulations to our players on their very decisive 1st round playoff victory against the Mount Boucherie Bears.  Good luck as you continue onto the next rounds!

On Monday, we had the opportunity to reflect, remember and honour the sacrifices of the members our Canadian Armed Forces.  I received many compliments about our school’s Remembrance Assemblies.  Thank you again to all Panthers for your contribution to these powerful moments of respect and remembrance.

We returned to school on Tuesday morning with our teachers very focussed on the preparation of the upcoming Learning Updates (Report Cards) for the midway point of the 1st semester classes.  Great thanks to all teachers for your time, expertise and professionalism in compiling this very important feedback for students and parents.   Parents/guardians, students are reminded that the reports will be available on the MyEdBC portal on November 19th.

Next week students will be reflecting on their Core Competencies of Communication, Thinking and Social and Personal Responsibility skills.  They will be setting goals in these areas as part of the British Columbia Graduation requirement.  Each student will generate a report that will be accessible through their Surrey Schools email account.  Parents/guardians are requested to ask your child about their goals and ask to see their summary report.

In addition, we are looking forward to hosting our First Peoples in Residence Week starting on Monday.  We will be inviting Indigenous Cultural Facilitators to speak to several of our Humanities 8 classes and hosting special Welcoming and Closing ceremonies as part of the week.  It will be a very meaningful week of learning and awareness for our students and staff.  Thank you to our Indigenous Education Program staff members for your leadership and work in hosting this event.

Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your weekend.  See you on Monday.

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.  Students must park in their designated stall.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
