Good morning Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

Autumn has arrived, we are now into October, and the weather is definitely changing.  There is a crispness in the air as the season changes and students and staff at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary have shifted into the routines of the Fall semester.  Our first month together in the 24/25 school year has been an extremely busy and important time for all Panthers.  We have increased in size and adjusted numerous systems of support and structure.  More importantly, our school community continues to be engaged in their learning and is enjoying the many opportunities that make life at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary very special.  I wish all students and staff the very best as they settle into the routines and traditions of the Fall.  The next 2 1/2 months before the Winter Break will be very important learning journey for us all.

Last week we recognized Orange Shirt Day at the school and then followed up with our Staff Pro-D Day focussed on the Calls to Action regarding the education system and Truth and Reconciliation.  Special thanks to Dr. Ray Aldred for your powerful Keynote presentation to our staff.  Also, thank you to our staff for your reflection in considering strategies to support our students with this important work.  An important day of learning and dialogue.

We returned on Tuesday after our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  After a few days away from the school, our students and staff settled into the routines of the week and reengaged with their learning goals.  I always appreciate the positive, energetic and focussed culture of our school! 😊

This week is a big one for our newest students with our Grade 8 Retreat!  The retreat is happening over two days and coordinated through our Humanities 8 classes.   Senior Leadership students help to coordinate the small group activities and challenges, and our grade 8’s have the chance to celebrate their membership in our Panther community.  This is an important culture-building tradition that welcomes and orients our students to the culture and expectations and goals of our community.  Great thanks to the many students and staff for your leadership in hosting this year’s retreat.  Excellent work Panthers!

Friday is World Teachers’ Day! 😊 It is a chance for us to celebrate the critical role our teachers play in the lives of our students and school community.  It is a chance to thank and celebrate teachers for the difference they make and express our gratitude for their kindness, compassion and professionalism.   Thank you to our entire Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary staff for all you do in support of our students and school.   You are amazing!

Enjoy your Friday and have a safe and happy weekend.  See you on Monday!

Traffic and Student Parking

All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule.  All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property.  Safety is our first priority.  Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.

If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options.  Please walk or bike to school if possible.  It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.

Please note that this year, students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms.  Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.

All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass.  Application forms may be picked up at the office.  Students must park in their designated stall.

Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property.  Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.

Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
