Principal's Message June 10-14th

Good morning Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

Hello Panthers.  We are entering the final week of classes for the 23/24 school year.  This is a very important time of learning.  We will maintain our studious and structured school climate until the end of the final day of classes.  Great thanks to all students and staff for all you do to contribute to our safe and caring environment.  Students - stay focussed, remain committed to your success, attend all classes and avoid distractions that will impact your learning and negatively impact our school tone.  We are so fortunate that our Panthers are responsible and thoughtful citizens of our school community.  Finish strong Panthers, we are proud of you!

Last Friday our Anti-Racism teacher Discussion group held our final Book Club meeting of the year.  Great thanks to Ms. Perez-Dingler for your leadership and to all the participants for your reflection and input.  This was an important conversation for us all and I look forward to future initiatives across our school community that support our goals of fostering equity, diversity and inclusion.

This week our students have been enjoying intramural Dodgeball.  This is always a fun and exciting way to spend a lunch break!

On Wednesday evening, our Indigenous Support team hosted an Indigenous Art Exhibit.  Our students and members of our community are so talented.  This was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate Indigenous art, culture and history and recognize the talents within our community.  Great thanks to our teacher and Indigenous Graduation Advocate Ms. K. Robinson for organizing the event.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, many students will be writing their required Provincial Assessments for graduation.   We wish all Panthers the very best in this important Ministry of Education exam.

At lunchtime on Thursday, we had a chance to meet with Department Heads for our final meeting of the year.  We reviewed success stories from each department and across all curricular areas.  There is so much for us to celebrate!  Great thanks to all of our Department Heads for the leadership you provide your colleagues every day.  You make a profound difference in the education of our community.

On Thursday evening, students in our Dance program, under the care and guidance of Ms. Okrainetz, will demonstrate their talents, skill and hard work as they perform in our Year-end Dance Recital.  Students will perform to a large audience of proud family and friends.  It will be a wonderful celebration of a year of learning and dedication!  Well done Panthers!

Tomorrow, we will be hosting another new event at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.  Student Council and Leadership students will be hosting the LTSS Carnival for Change.   This fundraiser will provide a fun afternoon of games and prizes and will raise money for a very worthy cause, BC Children’s Hospital.  We wish the organizers a very successful event!

Lastly, on Friday evening we will be attending the annual SSSAA Coaches Awards Banquet.  This is a special evening for us to celebrate another year of Athletic success and recognize and thank our Program’s coaches and managers for their countless hours of time and dedication in support of our student-athletes.   Thank you for your gifts of time and care and expertise.  Our Panthers are very fortunate.

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety around Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is a critical priority for our community.  With increased enrollment, the number of vehicles navigating around and within our school grounds also increases.  It is essential that all drivers are very cautious while driving near the school and are aware of the many student pedestrians who are nearby.

All students and parents/guardians are requested to consider the following:

  • If possible, students - please walk and/or bike to school.  Fewer vehicles attempting to drop off and/or pick up students will be very helpful.
  • Consider dropping off/picking up 2-3 blocks away from the school and avoid the traffic congestion around the school.
  • Consider drop-off/pick up earlier and/or later in the morning/afternoons to avoid peak traffic times.

Thank you for your help in protecting the safety of our students.
