Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!

Good morning Panthers, hope your week has gone well.   It is Thursday morning, our 2nd semester is rolling… and we are immersed in learning and school spirit.   Our school continues to be a big, busy and exciting place to work and learn and our students and staff are highly engaged in all aspects of school life.  It is very gratifying for us to see the wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that our students can access.  This is a wonderful advantage of being a large, comprehensive Secondary school.  I wish all students and staff great success in the months ahead.

This Monday, I had the chance to meet with our Staff Committee.  We discussed the importance, and high priority, for our ongoing work in fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.  As we all know, this is a complex and sensitive area of learning for all of us.  We will continue to carefully support all of our students and staff through acknowledgement, awareness, education, celebration and allyship.  I would like to thank our student group, the LTSS Anti-Racism Alliance and also our Staff “Courageous Conversations” Book club for your leadership and sensitivity.  Great work Panthers!

With this, we recently celebrated Lunar New Year!   Our students created beautiful works of art to mark the occasion.  Thank you!

On Tuesday morning we practiced our Fire Drill procedures.   The weather cooperated with us, and our students and staff participated with care and cooperation.  It was a good opportunity to practice this important procedure.  The drill went well, with all students and staff accounted for.

On Tuesday evening, our Parent Advisory Council met for their February meeting and welcomed special guest speaker Ms. Jaclyn Blaney, Manager of Surrey School District’s Safe Schools Department.  Ms. Blaney presented a highly relevant and important message on social media, teenagers, and safety.  The presentation was recorded and may be found on our PAC webpage.  Great thanks to Ms. Blaney for joining us in support of school safety.

Wednesday was Valentine’s Day and it has been Spirit Week at LTSS! 😊 We have enjoyed celebrating with our Panthers and have appreciated the school spirit on display. Friday is “dress up as a dynamic duo” day!

On Wednesday evening, we hosted the Senior Boys Basketball District playoffs.  Our Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers have been enjoying a very successful season.  We wish them the very best as they advance through the rounds.  Good luck.

Grade 9 Immunizations occur on Thursday.  This is a large task for all grade 9 students.   Students are called down to the library throughout the day to receive their immunizations. Thank you to all of our staff for your flexibility in allowing this to occur.

Have a great day tomorrow and enjoy your weekend.  See you on Monday!

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety around Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary is a critical priority for our community.  With increased enrollment, the number of vehicles navigating around and within our school grounds also increases.  It is essential that all drivers are very cautious while driving near the school and are aware of the many student pedestrians who are nearby.

All students and parents/guardians are requested to consider the following:

  • If possible, students - please walk and/or bike to school.  Fewer vehicles attempting to drop off and/or pick up students will be very helpful.
  • Consider dropping off/picking up 2-3 blocks away from the school and avoid the traffic congestion around the school.
  • Consider drop-off/pick up earlier and/or later in the morning/afternoons to avoid peak traffic times.

Thank you for your help in protecting the safety of our students.
