Students from three Surrey secondary schools are medallists from this year’s Skills Canada BC Competition, a provincial contest that challenges youth on their skills in a variety of trades.

Students from Fraser Heights, École Salish and Semiahmoo secondary schools took top spots in 10 different categories, from baking and photography to electronics and graphic design. Held April 15 at the Tradex in Abbotsford, the 32nd annual event sees students from around the province compete in trades-related competitions.

Fraser Heights Secondary boasted the most winners with nine, including three gold medallists in two categories, across baking, electronics, graphic design, mechanical CAD, photography and public speaking. Returning students from last year's competition included Jay Tang and Maisy Tao, who took gold as a team in 2D animation, and Nicky Nguyen, who received silver in web design and development.

Semiahmoo Secondary’s Peyton Zhu took silver in fashion technology while École Salish Secondary’s Zach Ansley placed third in cabinetmaking.
