Congratulations to the LEOCraft Team!

A BIG Congratulations to our LEOCraft Team on winning the award for Best Community Engagement in STEM!

The Team has returned from Alabama and we couldn’t be more proud! Our talented group of students were the only team in Canada to compete in this international competition that featured teams from Turkey, India, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, Dominican Republic and many from the United States. The NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) encourages research and development of new technologies for future mission planning and crewed space missions to other worlds. Canada plays an important role in space exploration and will continue work with NASA in the future.

The purpose of the competition is to encourage the next generation of engineers and space explorers.  It was a lot more then just building and racing a Rover, it was about promoting STEM to the community and younger learners. The LeoCraft team from Princess Margaret won the award for Best Community Engagement in STEM. They led hands on activities with over 2,000 community members including elementary school students.  They executed this through assemblies and classroom workshops.  Congratulations on this Award!

Their success would not have been possible without the help of the community.  While we congratulate them, the Team would like to thank everyone that encouraged them and supported them with financial donations. While there were many donors, a very special thank you to City of Surrey and Mr. Tony Singh from Fruiticana for making this opportunity possible.
