Our School

Holly Elementary is a diverse community that welcomes children and families from all over the world. We strive to support children - from our youngest learners, to those leaving at the end of grade 7 - to be kind and responsible citizens, critical thinkers, creative and innovative learners, and healthy in mind, body and spirit. 

Goals:

  • Teachers identify a question that is relevant to them and to their students in relation to one of the following goal areas:
  • Self regulation 
  • Formative Assessment (working with learning goals, criteria, feedback and questions)

Accomplishments and Initiatives:

  • Strong Start Early Literacy Program 
  • Early Literacy Teacher - grades K-2
  • Early Numeracy Teacher - grades K-2
  • Guided reading in Grades 1-7 as part of a balanced literacy program 
  • District Literacy Inquiry teams - focus on reading comprehension
  • Innovative Learning Design Grant Initiative - using technology and inquiry-based instruction to support student learning 
  • STARR program (Surrey Community Services: Services to Access Resources and Recreation)
  • Partnership with the YM/YWCA to support the after school JUMPSTART program
  • Partnership with the Learning Disabilities Association to support after school literacy programs
  • Partnership with SD36 WRAP team to support after school soccer programs
  • A wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities including: cross country, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, track and field;
  • Holly Speech Festival and Invitational Speech Festival
