Code of Conduct
Forsyth Road School CODE OF CONDUCT 2025 - 2026
Rationale:
Forsyth Road School has a safe and caring school environment. The school code of conduct provides guidelines for all students to feel safe, secure, and comfortable. These guidelines are in place to help students reflect on their choices, take responsibility for their actions, and set goals to engage in decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution in ways that are age appropriate and lead towards healthy living and learning. We value and encourage a learning and working environment that is inclusive, and respectful of the diverse social and cultural needs of our school community.
Forsyth Road Students show respect for themselves:
- Be punctual and attend school daily
- Use respectful language with all members of the school community
- Use common sense and good judgement
Forsyth Road Students show respect for others:
- Be respectful of other people, their cultures, languages and traditions
- Treat all members of the school community with dignity and respect
- Respect the rules of the classroom
- Use Electronic Devices appropriately, with respect towards others (only to be used during class time with permission of the classroom teacher)
Forsyth Road Students show respect for the environment:
- Respect school property and the property of others
At Forsyth Road, we value the home/school connection as we support students in making decisions that keep all students safe, comfortable, and free to be themselves. Conflicts are resolved through making restitution and developing an understanding that our choices have consequences. Parents will be contacted if there are concerning patterns of behavior, physical aggression against peers or staff, or there is involvement from district staff or outside agencies (Safe School, School Resource Officer, RCMP).
Notification:
As circumstances warrant, administrators have a responsibility to advise parents and other parties following an incident involving drugs, alcohol, or weapons, which can include:
- Assistant Superintendent, Safe Schools team member and/or other District Staff
- Ministerial agencies and/or School Liaison Officer (Police)
In instances where outside agencies are involved, the school administrator will connect with parents to ensure that proper communication channels are maintained, and timely information is shared between home and school.
At Forsyth Road, it is unacceptable to engage in the following behaviors:
- Bullying, harassment, threat, intimidation, violence in any form
- Cyber-bullying (use of internet to harass, intimidate or put down others)
- Verbal, physical, or sexual abuse
- Racial discrimination
- Theft or Vandalism
- Retribution against a person who has reported incidents
At Forsyth Road, we will not tolerate the presence of:
- Intoxicating substances or smoking
- Weapons and explosives (real, replicas or anything that can be used as a weapon)
- Intruders or trespassers
- Firecrackers
Students are responsible for not bringing, or being in possession of, any items that can be used as weapons or are replicas of weapons or any intoxicating substances. This code of conduct applies to all Forsyth Road students while at school or at school-sponsored functions.
CLOTHING EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS
A respectful and safe atmosphere is important to academic achievement and citizenship at Forsyth Road Elementary. We want to create a comfortable atmosphere where children can be children, without the pressure to “hurry up and be young adults.” Clothing is expected to be appropriate to a working and learning environment. The school’s dress code is not intended to stifle freedom of expression; however, attire should not be offensive or uncomfortable. Inappropriate attire includes:
- Drug and alcohol designs
- Designs that are suggestive, lewd, rude, or profane
- Threatening, derogatory or discriminating language
- Beach wear
- Clothing that could interfere with their safe participation in physical activities
