Indigenous Education Department

Indigenous Education Department

Earl Marriott Secondary sits on the traditional, unceded territory of the Semiahmoo First Nation. Our school has a rich and proud history of Indigenous education at the school. Taking its lead from the Semiahmoo First Nation and their elders, Earl Marriott has a vibrant Indigenous education program that serves the community.  Earl Marriott is always strengthening its bonds with the Semiahmoo First Nation and their leadership group.

The Department looks after and cares for student that are designated as Indigenous, guiding them in their educational journey while here at the school. The Department sponsors and participates in District programs as the Windspeaker and other community-based programs. The Indigenous Education Department also plans the annual Orange Shirt Day event in the fall.

Earl Marriott’s signature event is the annual Community Pow Wow held each Spring at the school. A brief history of the Pow Wow is linked here.

POW WOW VENDOR INFORMATION:

The Earl Marriott Semiahmoo First Nation Community Pow Wow will be held on March 8-10, 2024. If you would like to register for a table, please complete the form using the following link Pow Wow Vendor Information or click on the QR Code. The Coordinating Committee will reach out to you to confirm your table registration and with a link for online payment, which must be submitted by Feb. 15, 2024.

Tables for this year’s event will be $150 for all three days; we will not be accepting partial payments for a reduced number of days. We will supply you with an eight-foot table. Your table area includes a five-foot clearance behind your table (40 square feet total). Should you require more space than this, please register for an additional table. We will do our best to honour special requirements, such as location near a power source; however, outlet numbers in the vendor area are limited. Due to safety concerns, we will not have vendors in the main gym this year.

Please be advised that this is a school setting. While there is access to school wi-fi, the coverage can be spotty. You may need to toggle onto your cell phone data in order to run card payment systems.

In an attempt to limit spills and competition, we will not be accepting food vendors at this year’s event. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
