Parent Volunteer Information
The Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) requires school boards in British Columbia to ensure that volunteers who work with children under the age of 19 complete a Criminal Record Check through the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP).
To complete a Criminal Record Check:
- CLICK HERE to initiate your Criminal Record Check
- Complete an online Criminal Record Check
- You will receive an email from the PSSG Security Programs Division, which includes instructions to complete your check. Please complete this step as soon as possible. The link will expire in 14 days and your application cannot proceed until it is completed.
- Verify your identity using the BC Services Card App (Preferred method) - Instructions for setting up the App are available here: BC Services Card Setup Guide
- If you cannot use the BC Services Card, you still complete the CRC application online, however, you will receive an email from the school district asking you to visit the Human Resources counter at the District Education Centre to verify your ID in person.
- If you are unable to use the BC Services App or attend the District Education Centre to verify your identity, please contact volunteerchecks@surreyschools.ca.
- Receive confirmation of your Criminal Record Check clearance.
- Once your Criminal Record Check has been processed, a confirmation email will be sent to both you and your school site.
Returning Volunteers
Criminal Record Checks are valid for five years, unless a volunteer is charged with or convicted of a new offence. If this occurs, the volunteer must report the charge or conviction to their school or the district so that a new Criminal Record Check may be initiated, in accordance with section 24.9 of the Criminal Records Review Act.
Volunteers will be contacted when a new Criminal Record Check is required.
