Surrey Schools celebrates support workers with Student Support Appreciation Day

Running each of our 130 schools takes a tremendous amount of teamwork, and today, Surrey Schools would like to acknowledge the many support staff whose effort, time and care contributes to the ongoing success of Surrey and White Rock students.
Today is Student Support Appreciation Day, an opportunity to highlight the outstanding work of inclusive education support workers (IESWs), child and youth care workers (CYCWs), supervision aides, custodians, bus drivers and all other school and district staff who make a difference in the lives of students every day.
“Support workers hold many important positions throughout our schools, working both in the classroom and behind the scenes to ensure student success,” said Surrey Board of Education Chair Gary Tymoschuk. “We are continuously grateful for your commitment to supporting student learning, and our schools are stronger because of you.”
“Our support workers are the unsung heroes of the district,” said Supt. Mark Pearmain. “The impact of your work is felt in every student achievement, every calm moment and every breakthrough, and today, we recognize the patience, compassion and resilience you bring into our schools each and every day.”
Student Support Appreciation Day is recognized on the first Wednesday of April and is sometimes referred to as Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, encompassing a broad range of roles as members of school education teams.
Support staff, teaching staff and administrative staff work together to uphold safe, inclusive and welcoming environments at all of our Surrey and White Rock schools.
Throughout the year, Surrey Schools also recognizes staff on:
- Administrative Professionals Day (the Wednesday of the last full week in April);
- Principal and Vice-Principal Appreciation Day (May 1); and
- World Teachers’ Day (Oct. 5).
Thank you for your dedication, compassion and care. Our schools couldn’t do what they do without you!
