Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association & Surrey Basketball Classic tourneys on this week and next!

The competition is heating up in secondary basketball as the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic takes to the court while the Surrey Basketball Classic tips off next week.
The 24th annual Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Goodwill Basketball Classic kicked off on Monday and runs through to Saturday, Jan. 10, putting the spotlight on senior girls high school basketball. Last year, the Fraser Heights Firehawks soared to the top of the Ladder division while Holy Cross Regional High School edged out the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers in the Axe division.
The Goodwill Basketball Classic features teams from more than 20 secondary schools, including Clayton Heights, École Earl Marriott, Elgin Park, Enver Creek, Fleetwood Park, Frank Hurt, Fraser Heights, Grandview Heights, Guildford Park, Johnston Heights, L.A. Matheson, Lord Tweedsmuir, North Surrey, École Panorama Ridge, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth, Semiahmoo, Sullivan Heights and Tamanawis, as well as École Gabrille-Roy, Holy Cross, Khalsa School, and Pacific Academy.
Then on Sunday, Jan. 11, the 34th annual Surrey Basketball Classic takes over local secondary school gyms with junior and senior boys’ competitions, leading up to the senior finals on Saturday, Jan. 17. Last year, the Fleetwood Park Dragons won the senior tournament while the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers took the junior tourney.
