The Surrey Board of Education has re-elected Chair Gary Tymoschuk to sit at the helm for another year, while Trustee Garry Thind was elected as the board’s new vice-chair.

At the November public board meeting, Tymoschuk was nominated and elected by fellow trustees to serve as chair, while Thind was nominated and elected to serve as vice-chair, for the period ending Nov. 30, 2026.

“I appreciate the trust that everyone has put in me to carry out the role of chair for another year and I will certainly do it to the best of my ability as we move forward in representing this board, this district, and of course, the students in our city,” said Tymoschuk.

Tymoschuk succeeded Larsen last year, who served as chair since 2017, while Thind succeeds Trustee Terry Allen, who served as vice-chair from 2024 to 2025 and previously from 2017 to 2022.

The current Surrey Board of Education was sworn in in 2022 after being elected to serve the Surrey School District in B.C.’s 2022 General Local Elections.

The board oversees kindergarten to Grade 12 students at 131 schools across Surrey and White Rock, as well as more than 13,000 employees.

Public board meetings are scheduled once a month at 7 p.m. at the District Education Centre (DEC), 14033 92nd Ave.

Meeting dates, agendas, minutes and videos can be viewed here and live-streaming is available on the day of the meeting.

The next board meeting will be held on Dec. 10, 2025.
