Spring Break fun! Events and activities in Surrey & White Rock

Spring Break is almost here! And with two whole weeks off, there are lots of fun, family-friendly and free activities and events to enjoy! Here’s a roundup of some of the things happening in Surrey and White Rock over the next few weeks!

Museum of Surrey

  • March 17-20 & 24-27 – Spring Break: Emergency Services: Meet Surrey’s first responders and explore fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles on select days! Learn from Surrey Fire Service, Surrey Police, Ambulance Paramedics of BC, BC Emergency Health Services and the Ministry of Children & Family Development about what you could be when you grow up, and participate in a scavenger hunt, obstacle course and interactive activities!
  • Ongoing family-friendly exhibitions: Learn about Surrey’s hockey icons, view contemporary Indigenous art, dig into Surrey’s roots and take in the museum’s photo mural project. Kids can also have fun in the TD Explore Zone, which features a mini museum, snack shack, small library, scarf cannon and treehouse with a giant slide!

  • March 17-20 & 24-27 – Spring Break Drop-In Activities: Join staff at Totest Aleng Indigenous Learning House (13723 Crescent Rd.) for free fun for the whole family! Each day has a theme: Tuesdays, Turtle Island teachings; Wednesdays, weaving teachings; Thursdays, plant walks and colouring; and Fridays, button making and colouring.
  • March 13, 17, 18, 21, 24, 26 & 27 – Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad: Volunteer in parks with other youth to help restore, enhance and grow Surrey’s urban forest! The SYSS is always looking for volunteers to help remove invasive plants, plant trees and shrubs, clean up litter and enhance habitat within Surrey parks.
  • March 13, 14 & 15 – The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane: Enjoy a heartwarming and poetic all ages theatrical performance following Edward Tulane, a vain porcelain rabbit who learns the true meaning of love. Onstage at Surrey Civic Theatres (13750 88 Ave.), the venue is hosting four performances, including a sensory-friendly performance on March 14 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for each show range from $23.25 to $38.25.
  • March 14 – Community Tree Planting: Come to Hazelnut Meadows Community Park (14069 68th Ave.) to plant smaller forest trees and shrubs! Everyone is welcome and tools and training are provided. Wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and dress to get dirty. Plantings take place rain or shine but may be cancelled in high winds.
  • March 17-20 & 24-27 – Bad Bunny Scavenger Hunt: Naughty bunnies are on the loose at Historic Stewart Farm! Join the scavenger hunt, find the bunnies and receive a plush bunny of your very own! Held daily from noon to 4 p.m., prizes available while supplies last.
  • March 20 & 24 – Sensory Friendly Swims: Visit Guildford Recreation Centre on March 20, noon to 2 p.m., or Newton Recreation Centre on March 24, 1 to 3 p.m. for a sensory friendly swimming experience. During these times, the pool facilities will see reduced noise, with no background music or speaker announcements, and additional considerations to create a supportive sensory environment.
  • March 21 – Family Easter Event: Spring has almost sprung! And the Newton Seniors Centre (13775 70 Ave.) is hosting a free, family-friendly morning of Easter fun, including an egg hunt, hands-on crafts, egg painting and cookie decorating. Come meet the Easter Bunny and join the fun!
  • March 21 – Nature Work Parties: Help remove invasive plants at Fraser Heights Park (10588 160th St.) to enhance the local habitat! All ages are welcome and tools and training are provided. Dress for the weather and bring water. Look for the Surrey Parks tents upon arrival!

White Rock Library

  • March 13, 20 & 27 - Nintendo Club: Wahoo! Come play Nintendo games such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party and more! Ages 7 and up recommended, children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. First come, first served.
  • March 14, 19, 21, 26 & 28 – Family Storytime: Introduce kids to the love of books with storytime! Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more. See website listings for times and further details.
  • March 16 & 23 – LEGO Club: Love LEGO? We provide the LEGO, you bring your imagination! Come play, experiment and create. LEGO Club is a fun afternoon program for all.
  • March 17 & 24 – Art Club: Drop in and create art at the White Rock Library! Supplies are provided. A parent or caregiver must accompany children under 10.
  • March 19 & 26 – Chess Club: Calling chess players of all ages – those who want to learn, improve their skills, meet other chess players, or just have fun! Young children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
  • March 24 – Open Mic Zero to 360: Come watch writers, poets, storytellers and performers in a free, family-friendly open mic night where each participant receives six minutes (360 seconds). For info, contact leah@leahmurray.ca.
  • March 25 – Ukulele Jam: Join us for an afternoon of music with fellow uke enthusiasts. All skill levels are welcome! Just bring your ukulele and singing voice for a great time. Don’t own a ukulele? Borrow one from The Playground at FVRL.
  • March 25 – Playground Spotlight: Cubetto and Code & Go Robot Mouse: Join us this Spring Break to explore our Playground. Cubetto and Code & Go Robot Mouse teach kids basic coding through hands-on play. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
  • March 26 – Science World on the Road: The Science of Sport!: Are you ready to play smarter? This high-energy show unpacks the fascinating science behind your favourite sports. Discover how we use science to perfect our game by exploring concepts like energy, forces and health.

Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS)

  • Newton Youth Hub March Calendar: There’s something going on almost every day at the Newton Youth Hub! Try your luck in the shamrock hunt, join a learning circle or sign up for the Mount Seymour tubing trip!
  • City Centre Youth Hub March Calendar: City Centre has tons of activities too! Take part in a cultural cooking class, join the discussion in the guys group and girls group, pick up a cue at the pool tournament or finish off Spring Break by pulling that reverse card in the UNO tournament! Open to all youth ages 13 to 18.
