An integrated approach to education...
Mountainview Montessori is a district choice program in Surrey's Guildford area. The Montessori program uses an integrated approach to eduction. Students learn in multi-age groups, and usually spend three years with the same teacher. Curriculum is often student-choice within a structured classroom evironment. This year there are seven Gr. 1-3 classrooms and five Gr. 4-6 classrooms. We also have two Kindergarten classes and two Grade 6/7 divisions.
Our philosophy to education...
Montessori is a philosophy that focuses on human's emotional, intellectual, and physical needs. It accepts children as curious and creative drivers of their own learning. It believes that learning is innate, inborn and natural. Our focus is on respect and partnership with children, their families and all adults to create a learning environment that supports student learning as well as social, emotional and physical needs.
Connecting with the environment...
The Montessori classroom extends beyond the walls of our three-building site.  Going on outings is a key part of the program.  Classes regularly go on walking field trips to local parks and neighbourhoods as well as more formal field trips by school busses, public transportatoin or parent drivers. Each year all intermediate students participate in an Outdoor Education experience at a 3-day camp. These camps allow students to engage in activities that enhance the curriculum and which are not possible within the school building.
