Connecting with the environment...
The Montessori classroom extends beyond the walls of our building. Going on outings is a key part of theprogram, and classes will regularly go on walking field trips to local parks and neighbourhoods as well as more formal field trips requiring parent drivers. Each year all intermediate students take part in an Outdoor Education experience at a 3-day camp. These camps allow the students to engage in activities which enhance the curriculum and which are not possible within the school building.
Our philosophy to education...
Montessori is a philosophy that focuses on human's emotional, intellectual, and physical needs. It accepts children as curious and creative drivers of their own learning. It believes that learning is innate, inborn and natural. Our focus is on respect and partnership with children, their families and all adults to create a learning environment that supports student learning as well as social, emotional and physical needs.
An integrated approach to education...
Mountainview Montessori is a district choice program in Surrey's Guildford area. The Montessori program uses an integrated approach to eduction. Students learn in multi-age groups, and usually spend three years with the same teacher. Curriculum is often student-choice within a structured classroom evironment. This year there are seven Gr. 1-3 classrooms and five Gr. 4-6 classrooms. We also have two Kindergarten classes and two Grade 6/7 divisions.
Barry Morrey Memorial Track Meets
Every year around this time you students and coaches are outside after school running, jumping and throwing objects. This also happen before school and at lunch. All of this energy is focused on sending Track and Field teams to Bear Creek Park for Surrey's annual elementary school track meets. These meets are named after Barry Morely, a former Surrey teacher devoted to working with students and coaches to ensure their experience with athletics was positive and rewarding,. Check the school's calendar to see when our track meet day is scheduled.
