Policy 6515 - Application of Pesticides, Herbicides, or Insecticides to Buildings or Grounds


Chemical pesticide or insecticide treatments are to be applied to district buildings and grounds only when health and safety concerns have been identified and nonchemical treatments have been ineffective. When such chemical treatments are employed, staff will ensure that precautions and processes are in place to ensure the safety of pupils, staff and the general public.
Before any chemical that has not been previously used in the district is employed as a pesticide or insecticide, assurance is to be obtained that the chemical is safe to use as proposed. Such assurance may be provided by the school medical officer, Ministry of the Environment or other agency qualified to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of chemicals utilized in the preparation of pesticides or insecticides.
Cosmetic use of herbicides is not allowed under any circumstances.
