Policy 10310 - School Volunteers


1. 

PHILOSOPHY

1.1. 
The Surrey Board of Education considers that volunteers can make a valuable contribution to student learning in schools.

2. 

INTENT

2.1. 
It is the intent of the board to comply with the provisions of collective agreements including provisions which restrict the use of volunteers.
2.2. 
It is the intent of the board that school volunteers be selected, oriented and supervised in order to:
a)Minimize risk to students; and
b)Maximize contribution to realizing the school district objectives.

3. 

AUTHORITY

3.1. 
Administrative officers are authorized to utilize school volunteers within the context of board’s aforestated intent.
3.2. 
The board assigns district administration the responsibility and authority to establish district standards and practices for the utilization of school volunteers.
