Lunar New Year- Fortune Cookies!
Dear Families,
Tomorrow, February 10, is Lunar New Year, which begins the celebration for the upcoming Year of the Dragon. At the end of the day today, your child will receive a fortune cookie to take home, so that you can decide if this is something you would like your child to eat. They are individually wrapped.
The ingredients are enriched wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, coconut oil, palm oil, canola oil, corn starch, baking powder, artificial flavours. and egg colour. Contains wheat.
Despite being commonly served in Chinese restaurants throughout North America, fortune cookies are apparently not Chinese in origin. The exact origin of fortune cookies is unclear, though various immigrant groups in California claim to have popularized them in the early 20th century. They most likely originated from cookies made by Japanese immigrants to the United States in the late 19th or early 20th century.
No matter who invented fortune cookies, this gift is to wish all families who celebrate Lunar New Year (and those who don’t) good luck and good fortune!
