A look back at last week

Basketball Season

Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Play Day teams on their success at Play Day this week. They had some tough competition but showed excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and a significant improvement in skill from the beginning of the season. A big thank you to their coaches; Ms. Anderson, Ms. Howes and Mr. Loewen for the boys and Ms. Flint and Ms. Kang for the girls.  Also a big thank you to the parents for getting the children to school for early morning practice and for transporting to games.  Great season, everyone!

EXTENDED ABSENCES

Each school year we are approached by an increasing number of parents who with to take their child(ren) out of school for extended periods of time.  Cougar Creek does not sanction the absence of any student during the school year for any reason other than illness or bereavement.  However, we understand that time with families is important and travel distances sometimes mean that school absences are unavoidable.  Please be aware that any planned absence greater than 10 school days requires the student to complete an Extended Absence form and the parents must arrange to meet with the Principal prior to ensure a clear understanding of the academic impact of such absence.

STUDENT ABSENCES

Please report all student absences by either calling the office at (604)-591-9098 or by e-mailing cougarcreek@surreyschools.ca and include the following information:

  •  Student's name
  •  Division or Teacher
  •  Reason for absence

Student and Family Affordability Fund

As shared this past fall, the Student and Family Affordability Fund is designed to assist families who require financial assistance with school-related costs in the following areas:

  1. - school and course fees
  2. - school supplies and course materials
  3. - field trips
  4. - school-related extracurricular opportunities

The additional funding is also used to support school meal program and other nutritional supports for students.

Please reach out to Ms. Manery at manery_t@surreyschools.ca if you are in need of assistance.  As always, all requests will be treated with dignity and your privacy will be respected.  We want to work with our families to ensure that our students, your children, have everything they need in order to be successful at school.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can help.
