Terry Fox Run & Fundraiser at Berkshire Park

These days, we all seem to know someone who is fighting cancer. Right here at Berkshire Park, Mrs. Wong, our beloved Records Clerk, is off on medical leave as she faces cancer for the fourth time. Cancer harms and often takes our loved ones. That's why raising money for cancer research is so important. In 1980, Terry Fox decided to run across Canada in order to raise money for cancer research. Sadly, he wasn't able to accomplish his goal. However, every year, people all of the Canada run for Terry, honouring his courage and perseverance, and raise funds for cancer research.
The Terry Fox Foundation appreciates the generous donations every year from our school. Our goal this year is to raise $1,000 in support of cancer research. Donations can be made in two ways:
- Students may bring their money donations to their classroom teacher
- Parents wishing to donate online can go to the website http://www.terryfox.ca/BerkshireParkElementary and search for our school name. If your donation is $20 or more, the Terry Fox Foundation will e-mail you a tax receipt.
We also need parent volunteers to act as marshals along the route off school grounds for the intermediate students. This job entails cheering on the children, pointing them in the right direction, and making sure they are running safely. If you would like to be a marshal, please let us know on the bottom of the permission slip. We would like the marshals to meet outside the office at 8:30 am on the day of the run to receive maps and traffic cones.
All students will be running off school grounds on a set path around the neighbourhood. Therefore, the students will need to fill out the permission slip below and return it to their classroom teachers. Students who don’t return the permission slip will be walking around the perimeter of the school property.
Students will need to bring runners and proper clothing, depending on weather. This event will take place rain or shine, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Parents and family members are welcome to join us! Please meet us on the gravel field at 9:00 am after attendance has been taken.
