“We prepare our learners to think creatively and critically, communicate skillfully, and demonstrate care for self and others” - Surrey Board of Education vision statement.

With a new school year upon us, the Surrey Board of Education welcomes both new and returning families!

“On behalf of the board, we are thrilled to welcome students, families and staff back for another exciting school year,” said Board Chair Gary Tymoschuk. “Whether you’re a returning student or joining us for the very first time, our school communities across Surrey and White Rock are committed to creating warm, inclusive and safe learning environments, where everyone can feel they belong.”

Like all public school districts in B.C., Surrey Schools is overseen by an elected board of trustees, which is tasked with making decisions about the delivery of educational services. This includes ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent effectively and efficiently, establishing policy, liaising with partners and community members, and much more.

The Surrey Board of Education is elected by the citizens of Surrey and White Rock every four years and is comprised of seven officials:

  • Gary Tymoschuk – Chair
  • Terry Allen – Vice-Chair
  • Bob Holmes - Trustee
  • Laurie Larsen – Trustee
  • Laurae McNally - Trustee
  • Garry Thind - Trustee
  • Shawn Wilson – Trustee

As the largest school district in British Columbia, Surrey Schools also has the largest annual operating budget, exceeding $1.1 billion. These funds are used to operate and staff more than 130 sites for 85,000-plus students and more than 13,000 staff members who learn and work in our district.

The Surrey Board of Education holds public meetings each month, which community members are invited to attend. Meetings are also livestreamed and published online. You can view schedules, agendas and learn more about board meetings here.
