Surrey Board of Education Trustee Bob Holmes has been elected to the Board of Directors of the British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) as the organization’s new Vice-President.
“It is a great honour and privilege to serve as Vice-President of the BC School Trustees Association and provide a strong voice for British Columbia’s students, teachers, support staff and administrators,” said Holmes. “Throughout my career of serving families and students, my goal remains to create an equitable, safe and caring environment for students.”
Holmes has served as a trustee with the Surrey Board of Education since 2014, sitting on a number of committees, including Policy and Finance, and serving as the board liaison to the Surrey District Parent Advisory Committee. He also served as President of the BCSTA Metro Branch from 2020 to 2022, and on the Board of Directors from 2022 to 2025.
“Bob has been a relentless and hard-working advocate for families and students in Surrey for over two decades as a DPAC board member and trustee,” said Gary Tymoschuk, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education. “He has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to Surrey Schools, our students and our families.”
During the BCSTA’s annual general meeting, school trustees and boards of education gathered to elect directors and discuss key motions that will steer BCSTA’s advocacy initiatives and influence governance and policy directions for the coming year. These decisions allow the BCSTA to serve as a unified voice for boards of education throughout the province and highlight their priorities.
The newly elected board will guide the BCSTA for the next two years. Their role will include advocacy efforts on behalf of the province’s school boards while enhancing public education and supporting the goals of locally elected boards of education in the province.
