The Tamanawis Secondary Wildcats boys wrestling team took home silver at the BC School Sports 2024 Wrestling Championships, marking an end to the team’s four-year run as provincial champions.
Narrowly losing to Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat Secondary by just three points (73-76), the Wildcats put on a valiant effort, but weren’t able to snatch the final four points needed to extend their banner run.
Standout performances for Tamanawis include Mustafa Nasir in the Male 63kg category, who scored 16 points and a gold medal with a technical fall, along with Karanjot Dhillon (48kg), Justin Lalli (84kg) and Jastej Mundi (90kg) who each took home silver in their respective weight classes.
Also in the boys division, the Queen Elizabeth Secondary Royals team landed fifth overall with 30 points. Students Prithvi Mann (74kg), Sayed Frogh (57kg) and Lucas Moski (130kg) won silver and two bronze medals, respectively, while Princess Abedu took bronze for the Royals in the Female 40kg category.
In the girls division, the Semiahmoo Secondary Thunderbirds team came in fifth place with 25 points. Sixteen of the team’s points were scored by a dominant Taranpreet Dhillon in the Female 51kg category, who scored a technical fall and a gold medal. Guildford Park Secondary was a close runner-up in seventh with 22 points.
Other Surrey schools that took part in the tournament included Princess Margaret Secondary, Guildford Park Secondary and Earl Marriott Secondary.
