Surrey Schools named one of BC’s Top Employers for 2023!
Surrey Schools has been named one of BC’s Top Employers for a seventh year.
The designation is awarded each year to 100 organizations across British Columbia that “lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.”
“The Surrey Board of Education is proud of our district’s recognition as one of the best places to work in British Columbia and we remain committed to ensuring all Surrey Schools employees feel valued and respected,” said Laurie Larsen, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education.
“Any of the district’s successes are a direct result of the amazing work employees do each and every day and our Board will continue to strive to provide a workplace they can take pride in.”
According to the 2023 Surrey Schools recognition page, Surrey Schools was selected in part due to its defined benefit pension plan and having a hybrid work program that allows managers and employees to set flexible work schedules.
Now in its 17th year, the annual competition is organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc and compares employers using the following criteria:
- Physical workplace;
- Work atmosphere & social;
- Health, financial and family benefits;
- Vacation and time off;
- Employee communications;
- Performance management;
- Training and skills development, and;
- Community involvement.
In addition to the criteria above, organizations are also selected based on which has the most progressive and forward-thinking programs/policies in place.

Mark Pearmain. “The education of children is one of the most critical roles in any society and we remain steadfast in our dedication to ensuring our employees have everything they need to not only meet that responsibility, but to excel at it.”
