Grandview Heights Secondary community forums seek feedback on catchment boundaries

With construction now underway on the new Grandview Heights Secondary in South Surrey, the process of establishing new catchment boundaries has begun â- and we want students and parents to have a say.

Grandview Heights, located at 16988 25 Ave., is scheduled to open in September 2020 and will have space for 1,500 students, easing overcrowding at Earl Marriott Secondary and Semiahmoo Secondary, which are both more than 25 per cent over capacity.

The goal in developing new catchment boundaries is to ensure student numbers are balanced between the four South Surrey-White Rock area secondaries: Earl Marriott, Elgin Park, Semiahmoo and Grandview Heights.

The district has created four options aimed at finding that balance, while also taking into consideration future residential growth and Choice Program locations.

Opening a new secondary school is an exciting time and provides a unique opportunity to define the culture and character of a new school community. Parent and student input are an important part of this process.

The catchment boundary options can be reviewed HERE and in a downloadable Information package. There are maps illustrating the proposals, with accompanying charts that provide further details about each option.

Input is being sought via an online survey on the consultation website PlaceSpeak at www.placespeak.com/sd36capitalplan.

The survey is also available in written form at the individual schools, or can be printed HERE and returned to your school. Feedback can also be submitted by email to grandview@surreyschools.ca.

A series of forums is scheduled to share information with the secondary and feeder elementary communities about the potential boundary changes. Each runs from 6:30-8 p.m.:

  • April 30 â- Earl Marriott Secondary, 15751 16 Ave. (feeder elementary school families encouraged to attend this night: East Kensington, Hall's Prairie, Jessie Lee, Morgan, Pacific Heights, Peace Arch, Laronde, Rosemary Heights and South Meridian).
  • May 14 â- Earl Marriott Secondary, 15751 16 Ave. (EMS families encouraged to attend)
  • May 15 â- Elgin Park Secondary, 13484 24 Ave. (Elgin and feeder elementary schools encouraged to attend: Chantrell Creek, Crescent Park, Ocean Cliff and Ray Shepherd).
  • May 16, - Semiahmoo Secondary, 1785 148 St. (Semiahmoo and H.T. Thrift families encouraged to attend)

Families are encouraged to attend the evening specific to their area, but as the information presented will be the same at each forum, attendees are welcome any evening that's most convenient.

Feedback is being accepted until the consultation period ends June 15.
