Holiday message from the Surrey Board of Education

Season's%20greetings%20from%20board.png

Dear parents, guardians and school communities,

What a difference a year makes – last December our schools looked very different. Today, our hallways are filled with students, our gyms with tournaments, our theatres with performances and our hearts with joy at the long-awaited return to a regular school year.

And we are also thrilled have a new school in our district. Regent Road Elementary opened its doors this past September to our Clayton families, and the 28-classroom addition at Sullivan Heights Secondary and 10-classroom addition at Sunnyside Elementary welcomed students this fall as well. Ta’talu Elementary is under construction in the rapidly expanding Grandview Heights area and Snokomish Elementary is our next new school, expected to break ground in the new year.

The district is also hard at work with new additions to École K.B. Woodward Elementary, Morgan Elementary and White Rock Elementary, and is in the planning and design stages for expansions at South Meridian Elementary and Semiahmoo Trail Elementary.

With so many students in our schools again, our board is continuing to advocate for new schools and additions. We are working closely with the Ministry of Education and Childcare to find sustainable solutions for our communities to meet our growing district’s capacity needs.

We are also working to ensure the health and well-being of our staff and students. We recognize the toll that these past two years have taken on our community, and we are committed to ensuring that our school communities have the tools needed to support wellness.

As we continue to manage the challenges and successes in our district, the Surrey Board of Education would like to thank our school communities for their ongoing support, which has been paramount to achieving the progress we have over the past few years.

With winter break around the corner, the Surrey Board of Education wishes all of our parents, students, and staff a safe and healthy season brimming with good cheer.

To the happiest of holidays!

Laurie Larsen, Chair

On behalf of the Surrey Board of Education
